Bilge

Bilge

"Bilge" is a big furry ball of mystery. Though definitely fixed, no one is quite sure whether "Bilge" is a male or female cat. We leave that to the discretion of our members and guests.

Bilge precedes almost every employee here. Though some of us try to guess Bilge's age, we're pretty sure he's "older than dirt" as the saying goes. As for how "Bilge" came to Club Nautique, that is also up for debate. The most oft told story of "Bilge's" origin is that after being mistreated by his original owners (residents of the nearby Ballena Isle condos) Bilge packed up and took to the road... It was a short journey to Club Nautique where, lacking the ultimate presence of children, Bilge took shelter.

How accurate the story is, is hardly relevant, that it helps explain Bilge's aversion of small children is the most we could ask for. The rest is, as they say, history. "Bilge" is hardly one to complain about an abundance of petting. So if you're heading out on a charter or studying up for a class, be sure to pay you're respects to the fluff sleeping on one of our couches...AKA "Bilge".

Early in January of 2009 Club Nautique lost a beloved friend and companion. The staff made the difficult decision to put the "Bilge", to sleep.

She was a sweet soul who loved to be petted and was happy as long as there was a warm lap to sleep on. She shared her love with everyone. Bilge was here long before most of the employees and had become part of the Club Nautique fabric. The Club will not be the same without her. She was a charming and sassy girl, even in her later years. We will miss her dearly.
