Daniel Glennon
Daniel came aboard as Membership Director in our Sausalito Location in May of 2002 with a great deal of experience, having worked in the marine industry since 1976. Daniel has done yacht commissioning and worked as a rigger, woodworker, and an instructor. Since 1978 he has taught literally thousands of people the art of sailing. His students have gone on to cruise their own boats, enjoy charter vacations around the world, race, and just plain have countless hours of fun on the water. He was head instructor at one of the largest sailing schools in the country, and became one of the nation's first Advanced Coastal Cruising Instructor Evaluators.
Daniel began sailing in his early teens but it wasn't until he was in his twenties that he became totally smitten by sailing. He's been a devout sailor ever since. He has cruised, raced, and bareboated the Great Lakes, California Coast, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii on sailing and motor vessels up to 52'. In the early '70s, he moved to the San Francisco Bay area from his hometown of Chicago, specifically for the world-class sailing conditions here. By the mid-1970s, he decided to turn his avocation into his occupation. He sold the chain of portrait studios he'd started and began working on boats professionally for minimum wage.
Daniel left the marine industry when he was in his forties (slight mid-life crisis) to pursue a career as an archaeologist. After 7 years of studying "stones and bones," he realized he truly missed the marine industry and made a decision to return to professional boating. We couldn't be happier about his decision!
