Dave Moore
Dave started sailing on a Sunfish in Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod as a child. He raced Rebels and Lightnings at Camp Lejeune, while a young Marine Corps officer. Spending two years embarked on the USS Inchon as the Combat Cargo Officer, he taught basic sailing to Marines and sailors while on liberty deployed overseas. He is one of the only Marine Officers who has ever received the coveted Navy SWOs (Surface Warfare Officer School) pin, after having passed all the Naval Officer in port and underway requirements. As a U. S. Marine Captain, and role model, he trained newly commissioned Lieutenants at The Basic School, and was decorated for his leadership by President Reagan and Marine Commandant Wilson.
Dave purchased his first boat, a 1965 wooden 36 foot Pacemaker at age 22 which he rebuilt and cruised to numerous Atlantic ports from Norfolk to Boston. Having learned his lesson in slaving over a used wooden boat for 9 years, he purchased a new 43’ Tradewinds, aft cabin motoryacht, in 1988, which he still owns and pampers. Dave and his “Princess” have made 11 round trips from San Diego and the Bay Area – and they still like each other.
Dave has his Bachelors degree from Valparaiso University majoring in biology and chemistry, with a minor in business, and has his MBA from Dartmouth. He had a noteworthy 25 year career in executive management in in vitro Cancer Diagnostics when he decided to purchase the Cruising Yachts dealership to follow his dream and surround himself with people who shared his passion for the water and boats. Dave has developed trustworthy relationships gaining him the respect of most of the Northern and Southern California yacht dealers, brokers, and vendors, even his competitors. He recently sold Cruising Yachts to his partner and now manages his own Brokerage, Nautique Yacht Sales, but retains co-ownership of Club Nautique, where he plays an active role in recruiting new members and setting up corporate events.
He was recently certified with a Master 100 Ton Captain’s License, with advanced endorsements in Towing, Sailing, FCC, First Aid and CPR. Dave has been elected to serve on the Northern California Marine Association Board of Directors, is a member of the San Francisco Chapter of the Navy League, and locally serves as Vice-Chairperson on the Board of Directors at Zion Lutheran Church, in Piedmont. Previously, he was on the Board of Directors at the Armed Forces YMCA at Camp Pendleton which raises the nation’s largest sum of funds for fallen Marine families. Dave is hardworking, mission-oriented, and a respected leader.
