Don Durant
Don took the helm of his first sailboat, an El Toro, on Lake Merritt more than 50 years ago and we guess he liked it; he's owned, raced, and cruised over 20 sailboats and a few powerboats since then.
He got his start in the boat business as a teenager, fixing up old boats, painting new boats, and teaching sailing. After a tour of duty as a navigator aboard a submarine, he jumped into the boat business full-time in 1968 and has since owned several boat dealerships, two boat yards, and of course Club Nautique and Cruising Specialists, now known as Cruising Yachts, Inc.
When he's not here, he cruises his Jeanneau 49DS Eureka!, serves on boards like US SAILING, Sail America, and the Northern California Marine Association, visits his kids and grand kids in Oregon, or explores the Gold Country near his home in Sutter Creek. You can email Don here.
