Max Crittenden
A Bay Area native, Max started sailing at age 11 on a plywood dinghy at the now-defunct Palo Alto Yacht Harbor and on various California lakes. In his teens, twenties, and thirties he cruised extensively in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, New Zealand, and both ends of the US/Canadian border, with an Atlantic crossing along the way. Max is an avid racer and the Vice Commodore and Race Chair of the Singlehanded Sailing Society.
In between sailing, discussing, officiating, and working on boats, Max has a day job as a mechanical design engineer. He became a sailing instructor in 2000 when a coworker (and now fellow instructor) recruited him for Club Nautique. His students give him high marks for patience and calmness, and the payoff for Max is seeing their skills "click" while they (and he) enjoy a weekend of sailing.
