John Dahle
In 1980 John moved from Pennsylvania to San Diego to take a VP position with an engineering company and to be near the "Big Water." In his spare time he raced his boats, winning numerous races, including 6 consecutive San Diego to Ensenada races, and two season championships. After several years of racing, managing events, family "cruises", John burned out. He sold his boats and sailing gear, quit his job, retired from the Yacht Club, moved to Sausalito, and decided his sailing days were done. Fortunately, he came to his senses.
In 1991 he took the position of Sausalito Base Manager for Club Nautique, overseeing a fleet 8 boats that eventually grew to 20. During his time here John has raced to Hawaii and organized an off-shore (OYRA) racing/training program for club members.
During his tenure as base manager, he was also developing web sites and software for the Club. In 1993 John he played an instrumental role in the Club's decision to buy Macs instead of PCs. John was so good with our computers that in 2000 he became the MIS Director for Club Nautique. He can often be heard saying that, if we didn't have Macs, we would need three of him to do his job.
John now lives aboard his sailboat, Blue Pearl, in Sausalito. Although he has left Club Nautique, most days you'll find him around the Sausalito clubhouse unless he's racing his boat, fly fishing, or playing tennis.
