A day of thanks

In appreciation of the men and women in our Armed Forces, Club Nautique, along with our proud sponsors, have invited the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard to participate in The American Armed Forces Cup!
Four branch of the military sent three participants to compete head-to-head against the other branches on Wednesday, May 15th, 2010. The Marines were unable to attend due to heavy deployment.
The Regatta was viewed from the water and the shore on Ballena Isle between 2pm and 5pm.
Club Nautique provided four evenly matched twenty-six foot sailboats (Colgate 26s). Professional sailing instructors were assigned to each team to instruct on basic sailing fundamentals and race tactics as needed during the race. Each military team did the actual sailing. Three head-to-head races were scored on a point system. The overall winner was presented with the American Armed Forces Cup perpetual trophy, which is to be defended next year and each year thereafter.
This was the closest year in terms of distance between boats. All the teams were very competetive. But alas, in the end, there is only one winner. The Coast Guard, for the third year in a row, has reigned victorious. Leaving the other branches to vow to practice and pad their boats with ringers next year.
