Race Clinic
Whether you want to race or not, this is one weekend of sailing you shouldn't miss. This race clinic is the perfect introduction to racing, and for those of you with some race experience, it can serve as an excellent refresher course. But it's not just about learning how to race; it's about sailing safe, smart, and fast, and learning something about the rules of the road that govern racers on the Bay.
The weekend starts with a discussion of the race course and its component parts, an introduction to racing rules, and an introduction to racing tactics. Saturday includes time spent on the water working on sailing skills and tactics such as "ducking drills" (avoiding boats on the opposite tack), mark roundings, and race starts, and each crew member rotates through the different positions of helmsperson, tactician, and sheet trimmer. On Sunday we review the on the water lessons from Saturday, and then put those lessons into practice . . . in other words, we race!
By the end of the weekend you will have gained a solid foundation of racing knowledge and skills, improved your driving and sail trim skills, and if you pass will be permitted to skipper Club Nautique boats in non-spinnaker races. Even if racing is not your ultimate goal, your personal skills and understanding of sailing will increase dramatically. Not only that, it's fun.
There is nothing like the exhilaration of racing, so if you have ever wanted to see what it's like to mix it up on the starting line, give us a call. We promise you will not be disappointed!
This weekend clinic is limited to six people per boat and reservations are required.
