Presented by Peter Lyons - Lyons Imaging

Spend an eveing with Bay Area on-the-water photographer, Peter Lyons. Enjoy a glimpse of of Peter's portfolio and get pointers on how to improve your on-the-water shots. Peter will be talking about getting the best possible results shooting on the water, with whatever photo gear a person has to use. Some ideas will work with small point and shoots, others will apply to more advanced cameras, there will be something for everyone.

Peter is typically the first person on the scene if something is happening on the Bay. He was able to photo-document the collision of the small pleasure craft with the 289' mammoth, Maltese Falcon. His website received record hits from folks wanting to get a gander at how that could happen. He was one of the first people on the rescue of a race boat crashing on the rocks just outside the Golden Gate for which he received and award from the race committee for his service.

Peter has always been drawn to the water. He's loved the shore and the boats that carry him beyond it for as long as he can remember. When his father bought him his first serious camera at age 13, Peter took right to it, and began reading and absorbing everything he could learn about photography, and making it his artistic passion. Today, as a professional maritime photographer, Peter brings together his talents behind the camera and his love of all things nautical to create memorable photographic stills and video. From his home in San Francisco, Peter shoots marine events both local and distant. Sometimes that means chasing a gorgeous sailing or motor yacht out under the Golden Gate Bridge and around the Point Bonita Light. Often he's shooting regattas--anything from youth dinghy races to the Rolex Big Boat Series or Acura Key West Race Week. He shoots commercially as well--many ports around the Bay load and unload commercial vessels from around the world. There are busy ferry terminals as well, an active fishing industry, marine survey vessels, and numerous other enterprises on the water. Always in pursuit of creative angles and the best look for his clients, Peter shoots from his Zodiac RIB, from helicopters and bridges, from in the water, from aboard the subject vessel or another chase boat, and sometimes from shore.
