Bay Cruising Destination Workshop
New to skippering on San Francisco Bay?
The San Francisco Bay Area encompasses more than 600 square miles of navigable waters, dozens of islands, and hundreds of miles of shoreline where you will find everything from exciting urban sophistication to pristine and peaceful natural refuges. And that’s just the Bay region. Further up, past San Pablo Bay, you will find the convergence of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers: The Delta. Here lie more than 1,000 miles of navigable waterways where fresh water and hot summertime temperatures lure you to “drop the hook” and dive in. There’s something for everyone on the Delta, from serene anchorages to wild hot spots. All of these Bay and Delta cruising grounds are open to anyone who charters from Club Nautique. You could spend a lifetime exploring the region and never see it all!
But how does the new skipper decide when, where and how to take advantage of these spectacular natural and cultural resources? By learning from those who have been there!
Our 2 1/2 hour Cruising Workshop presentation will provide the “local knowledge” to help you get the most from boating in this exciting, beautiful and challenging venue. Specifically designed for graduates of Club Nautique’s Basic Cruising program – sail or trawler – it is also ideal for all new skippers, and much of the information is invaluable regardless of your cruising grounds.
We will highlight the essentials of cruise planning, including:
- Choosing the right boat for each cruise (and how to go boating most economically)
- Crew/passenger selection and preparation
- Making tides and currents work for you
- Weather concerns (including the Bay’s famous “micro-climates”)
Additionally, we will discuss San Francisco Bay area destinations, with the focus on:
- Anchorages and moorings
- Harbor facilities
- Shoreside activities (dining, nightlife sightseeing, shopping, etc.)
- Potentially hazardous places/conditions (where and/or when NOT to go!)
Finally, we will entice you with tales of exotic Bareboat Chartering vacations in some of the most beautiful cruising destinations around the world. From the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, and from the South Pacific to the Pacific Northwest, if you’ve dreamed of distant shores, chances are we’ve been there and can help you plan your ideal boating vacation.
Club Nautique’s Cruising Workshops are virtual events held at least once a month and are complimentary for all members. The cost for nonmembers is $75. Space is limited, so be sure to call ahead for reservations.
