<30' Sailboats
We are proud to have 7 Colgate 26′ sport boats in the Club Nautique fleet. Colgate 26 sailboats are known as A Boat For All Reasons, because they are so versatile and safe in all wind and sea conditions. These boats are not only fun to sail, but known for being unsinkable which is why we teach our US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification course on this boat. Learning to sail on a small boat with a tiller (like a dinghy) generally makes a sailor better in the long run. Here’s why:
- Better Feel for the Boat – A tiller gives direct, immediate feedback on how the boat responds to wind and water, helping sailors develop instincts for steering and balance.
- Stronger Fundamentals – Small boats are more sensitive to weight shifts and sail trim, forcing sailors to master the core principles of sailing (like heeling, tacking, and trimming) before moving to larger, more forgiving boats.
- Improved Situational Awareness – Without modern instruments or a wheel, sailors rely more on visual and physical cues, improving their seamanship and decision-making.
- Hands-On Experience – Small boats require sailors to do everything themselves—trimming the sails, steering, and balancing—which builds confidence and skill.
The Colgate 26s are not only great learning boats they are an economical way to get out on the water and enjoy sailing.
