Growing up in NJ, Rod learned to sail on a Caribbean vacation in Antigua in the mid 1980’s. With the sailing seed firmly sown Rod honed his skills sailing catamarans and daysailers from Key West FL to Martha’s Vineyard, MA. After moving to California in 1996 Rod only occasionally sailed the SF Bay until joining Club Nautique in the fall of 2006. “I wanted the training, certification and confidence to charter anywhere in the world”. And after quickly completing his US Sailing certifications he did just that and has become one of Club Nautique’s more frequent world charterer. “In joining Club Nautique I luckily found a great group of people who, like me, are open to new sailing adventures whether in the SF Bay, California coast or around the world” After getting his USCG license Rod began teaching at Club Nautique in early 2011. “Teaching sailing is a great conduit allowing me to pass on my passion and enthusiasm and to give back to this wonderful sport.”
Rod also races on the SF Bay as well as volunteers taking east bay “children-at-risk” sailing. Rod designs microprocessors during the day and is a private pilot, professional musician, an avid golfer and softball player. He also dabbles in photography, SCUBA and skiing.
