A Minnesota kid (Northfield – “home of cows, colleges, and contentment”), Stuart spent summers sailing in Paul Bunyan’s foot prints, mostly on small centerboard boats and inland lake scows, with the occasional trip to Maine to show East Coast kids how to win races. After college, he completed a U.S. Navy Officer career which included over 8 years sea experience on vessels from 4,500 tons to 65,000 tons, and in jobs as ship’s navigator, damage control officer, operations officer, chief engineering officer, executive officer, and qualified for ship command.

Scratching an episodic sail itch, Stuart bundled the US Sailing courses together to complete all classes, from Basic Keelboat through Bareboat Cruising, within a year. Stuart holds a 100 tons Master’s license, and is crew for a J/105 race team. He is a volunteer for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and is a qualified boat coxswain and operations specialist. Before joining Club Nautique, Stuart taught Basic Keelboat Sailing in San Francicso.
